Why have to be Elephant?
The Power of Big!
Thai elephants, very clever and caring animals, were used as therapeutic media and also companions in doing activities for each autistic individual . The reasons for choosing an elephant for the autistic therapy program were its large size, movement, intelligence and caring disposition. Its immense size and the elephant’s constantly movement of its big ears, trunk, tail and legs to brush away annoying insects tends to create interest in autistic persons and motivate them to interact with the elephant and their environment. Elephants also eat a large amounts of food. Therefore, individuals with autism have more opportunity to interact with and care for them. Thai elephants have long been recognized as a great symbolic mascot of Thailand and play an important role in the Thai way of life. Thai domesticated elephants have proven their intellect and can be trained to work and live in harmony with human beings.
